In olden times invariably bench type crankshaft grinding machine was used. These machines were installed in a workshop and it was necessary to disassemble the engine, remove the crankshaft, pack and transport it to the designated workshop. This is now outdated.

There is no requirement of removal of crankshaft from the engine block as the crankpin/main journal grinding and polishing can be done onsite. The machine is inserted from the inspection window.
