Daihatsu 8DK32 Crankshaft Repair While Sailing

The details of the Daihatsu 8DK32 engine crankshaft are as follows:

The Daihatsu 8DK32 crankshaft, after disassembly, was subjected to a detailed inspection as per our company's protocol. The main observations are as follows:

i) Bearing material was found in the oil sump of the entablature at the positions of crankpins No. 02, 04, 05, 06, and 08.

ii) The connecting rods were disassembled to facilitate the inspection of the damaged crankpins.

iii) The crankpins were subjected to dimensional inspection, and excessive ovality was observed. The crankpin dimensions are as follows:

iv) Due to the failure of the crankpin bearings of crankpins No. 02, 04, 05, 06, and 08 and continued running of the engine, deep scoring/line marks were observed on all the crankpins.

v) All other parameters, such as hardness, crack detection by MPI, and crankshaft deflection, were observed to be within limits.

Action Taken by RA Power Solutions to Repair the Daihatsu 8DK32 Crankshaft  

i) Crankpins No. 02, 04, 05, 06, and 08 were ground undersize depending on the depth of the scoring marks.

ii) The crankpins were undersized, ranging from 0.50 mm to 2.50 mm.

iii) After grinding, all crankpins were polished to achieve the required surface finish.

iv) The final measurement of the repaired crankpins was recorded and verified against the required undersize dimensions.

Supply of Undersized Bearings for Daihatsu 8DK32 by RA Power Solutions
